PRESS RELEASE: Juvenile Arrested in Connection to Bomb Threat

KICKAPOO TRIBE IN KANSAS POLICE DEPARTMENT


On the morning of 08/29/2025 the Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas Police Department received a phone call from an employee of the Kickapoo Nation School in Powhattan, Kansas, to report a potential bomb threat which was made the day prior. It was said an explosive device may have been hidden in the main building on campus by the suspect.


Officers with the Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas Police Department, Brown County Sheriff's Office, Kansas Highway Patrol, Shawnee County Sheriff's Office, and Iowa Tribe Police Department responded to the school where a search was conducted for the possible explosive device. No device was obtained.


One juvenile suspect was arrested as a result of this incident and was transported to a juvenile detention facility.


No injuries were reported as a result of this incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community.

Any and all suspects associated with this incident are innocent until proven guilty.
