KICKAPOO TRIBE IN KANSAS – 07/26/2024 – Individual Arrested for Government Building Vandalism, Police Department Burglary

On 07/25/2024 an individual was arrested at approximately 9:15am in relation to the vandalism done to the Tribal Government Building and Police Department.

At approximately 8:10am, an officer with the Kickapoo Tribal Police Department arrived at the Tribal Police Department and discovered multiple items out of place on the outside of the building. While investigating, the officer was made aware of another incident at the Tribal Government Building where windows had been painted on with a red paint pen. After that, while reviewing the Police Department’s CCTV footage, the officer also discovered Jessica Masqua had entered the police department through a secure door. While inside, Masqua did not make entry to any area where sensitive information was stored, but did take items out of a storage closet as well as the department’s conference room.

After seeing this, the officer, who knew Masqua was still in the area, located Masqua near the door to the Tribal Court on the other side of the building shared with the Police Department. Upon speaking with Masqua it was determined she had been the culprit in the damages done.

Masqua was then arrested for the charges of Obstructing Government Function, Tampering with Public Property, Burglary, Larceny, Theft of Services, Disorderly Conduct, and Criminal Damage/Criminal Mischief. Masqua was then transported to the Brown County Jail. No injuries were sustained during this interaction.
